Biographical Information

The first 25 years

I was born and raised around Melbourne, Australia and graduated from Chisholm Institute of Technology (now part of Monash University) in 1986. In 1989 I moved to the U.S for a working holiday. I met my wife while living in San Francisco. We were married in 1991 and after moving from San Francisco, Helen and I lived in New York and Connecticut before going to England. We used England as a base for 2 extended periods of travelling around Europe separated by a winter when I worked in London.

The last 5 years

After returning to the U.S from our travels we settled near San Francisco where we now live. We have a daughter Laura (born Dec. 30th 1994) and Brian (born Mar. 5th 1998) who both have their own page of photos on this site.   There are also pictures of my extended family and Helen's family.

Interests

Helen and I both enjoy travelling although,  with 2 small children, we haven't done a great deal recently.  In my on-line photo album there are some of our travel photos. Also on this site is an extract from a travel journal I kept while we were travelling around Europe a few years back.  It may be of interest to anyone about to do some travelling there.

Although I use computers at work, I also spend quite a lot of time using them at home as well including building, and rebuilding, this website.

For several years now I have also spent time researching my family history. I have put some of my research onto this site.

My Work

I have been working in the computer industry for 12 years and most recently I have been a computer project leader and system architect.  Over the past  few years I have led some teams of programmers developing  a client/server customer information and billing system for a gas & electric companies using a variety of mainframe & UNIX servers with Oracle, DB/2 & Adabas databases and a Smalltalk (Visual Works) front end.

I have recently changed jobs and I now work for NetQuest,  an Internet consulting startup firm based in San Francisco where I do a variety of things including building web sites.
